FAQ

Your questions,
answered

Everything you might want to know before reaching out. And if you do not find what you are looking for, I am always happy to talk it through.

Getting Started
I have never been to therapy before. What should I expect?

The first session is simply a conversation. I want to hear your story, understand what brought you in, and begin to get a sense of what you are hoping for. You do not need to arrive with answers or a clear sense of what you need. That is exactly what we figure out together.

What is a free consultation?

I offer a free 15-minute phone call before any commitment. It is a chance for you to share what is going on, ask questions, and for both of us to make sure we are a good fit. There is no obligation to book after the consultation. I typically respond to initial inquiries within 2 to 3 business days.

What if I am not sure which service is right for me?

That is completely fine and very common. The free 15-minute consultation is the perfect place to talk through what is going on and figure out together which service is the right fit. You can also browse each service page for a detailed description of what is included and who it is best suited for.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for clients throughout New York State and Michigan. In-person sessions are available at my Hamburg, NY office.

Are you licensed in Michigan?

Yes. I am licensed as a clinical social worker in both New York State and Michigan, which means I can see telehealth clients in either state.

Do you work with LGBTQIA+ clients?

Absolutely. I am committed to creating a welcoming, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ clients, those in nontraditional relationship structures, and people of all backgrounds, bodies, and family configurations. Everyone deserves care that honors their full self.

Fees and Insurance
Do you accept insurance?

For individual therapy, I accept Aetna, Aetna Medicare Advantage, Anthem and Anthem EAP, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Independence Blue Cross, Oscar Health, Oxford, Priority Health, Quest Behavioral Health, UnitedHealthcare, UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage, and Optum Medicaid (New York). Couples therapy, family packages, and specialty services are self-pay, though a superbill can be provided for out-of-network reimbursement. HSA cards and all major credit cards are accepted across all services.

How much do sessions cost?

Individual and couples therapy is $150 per 53-minute session. Family therapy, grandparent and extended family services, and the mental load packages are priced as complete packages ranging from $800 to $2,200 depending on the service. Full pricing is listed on each service page.

Why do you not accept insurance for couples and family services?

Insurance requires an individual diagnosis to bill, which does not fit the nature of couples or family work. Rather than attach a diagnosis to either partner or family member, I prefer to keep this work honest and focused on the relationship itself. A superbill can be provided if you would like to seek out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you accept HSA cards?

Yes. HSA cards and all major credit cards are accepted across all services.

Specialty Services
Do you offer in-home sessions?

Yes, and this is one of the things that makes my practice genuinely rare. In-home observation and support sessions are available as part of family therapy packages throughout the Western New York area. Travel outside of WNY is also possible with client-covered accommodations and travel expenses.

Why are family services offered as packages?

Family therapy, grandparent interventions, and specialty services involve significant preparation, travel, observation, and written reporting that does not fit a standard per-session model. Packages allow me to deliver the full scope of support each family needs without shortchanging any part of the process.

What is the mental load package?

The mental load package is a structured assessment and planning process for couples and individuals navigating the invisible weight of domestic and childcare labor. It includes individual intake appointments, a diagnostic evaluation, a written report of findings, a planning session, and a follow-up troubleshooting session. Available for couples at $995 and for individuals at $875.

What is grandparent and extended family therapy?

This is a specialized service that brings grandparents and extended family members into the therapeutic process to address conflict, communication, boundaries, and family dynamics across generations. It is structured as a package starting at $800. It is still relatively uncommon in private practice.

Do you work with children and teenagers?

Yes. I offer child and adolescent therapy for young people, using age-appropriate, child-centered approaches that give them a safe space to explore emotions and build resilience.

Do you offer postpartum support?

Yes. I am a member of the WNY Postpartum Connection and offer specialized support for the emotional journey of pregnancy, birth, and new parenthood, including perinatal anxiety, postpartum depression, and birth trauma.
